Been following the Dreaming of Stars blog hop at Timeless Treasures. Each blog designed and posted a star block. I followed Jessica's lead with her Sawtooth Wonky Log Cabin star, afterall, I just love wonky. My color inspiration came from a post on Kimberly Einmo's blog. Check out her block
here. Also check out an amazing star block quilted in space! Love the wonkiness of the block and I went with the patriotic theme with mine.
So I am doing a mystery quilt over at Bonnie Hunter's blog and I am just a tad behind. I am posting progress so as to link to her blog.

Week 1 is complete, week 2 chevrons not so complete. Pieces are pressed and ready to be sewn together. Week 3 pinwheels, well, thank goodness we only need 61 and not 488 like with the chevrons!

Wish me luck.

PS - didn't pass on into heaven - blogging takes up so much time! Still quilting away... stay tuned!
Hot bubble baths, a good read, quilting, a nice stroll... while they are all great ideas, noone said "Lisa, quit your job!" Now, one of you did come close by mentioning retirement was as a stress buster and I can certainly relate as we seem to be in the same work field, but alas, I am still too young and my hubby says "NO"!

As an FYI - I actually dont have much stress in my home life. I have a great husband and the youngest still lives at home and he's been great too. And, I have the cutest puppy in the whole wide world if you missed the post. :) My stress is at work (they made me a boss after I said no twice!) Enough said on that matter but it hasnt been an all around pleasant experience for me.

Let's get to the good stuff. As promised, to be fair, I went off to random.org and chose a winner. We had 28 entries and the winner is.....

Here's the loot I added:

The first is a freebie pamplet I have on hand and the pattern is really cute. Because I have so many quilts in progress Im giving it up. The next two are project booklets and there are enough patterns in them to please everyone. The last is a Christmas book also filled with lots of different type of projects for the holiday.

I added a Starry Nights pattern/kit from Keepsake Quilting. The kit came with the pattern and all of the solids for the stars but youll need the 2 or so yards of background to finish the quilt top. I also added a copy of Amanda Murphy's new Village Green quilt pattern. I just tested this pattern and the quilt was so easy to make, and with all of her vibrant colors in the Veranda line it was a treat. My hope is that you enjoy it too and might consider her other equally beautiful patterns - my next one is a toss up between Bubbles, Garden Paths, and Portraits of My Garden. Incidently, have you seen Amanda's Swiss Chocolate fabric line? I just bought some. They have it available, and it's on sale, at the Fat Quarter Shop!

The pattern calls for charms but there should be enough fat quarters in this beautiful blue and green colorway to make it. Why am I giving it up? Well, that vacation was quite a few years ago and it just hasnt been on my priority list. I've made lots of quilts since so I'm not slacking!

These babies are awesome. The spring action feature makes cutting a breeze - never seen anything like it. They are so unlike my garden shears that once I cut a shrub branch I almost have to use 2 hands to open them back up again. Argh!

Anyway, thanks again Erin, I am enjoying them and it was perfect timing as my other pair of scissors fell apart. The piece holding them together was a plastic looking screw and it broke so in the trash they went.

It just so happens that I came across a new blog Brown Quilts and an opportunity to use my new gift. Please read Carol's May 3rd posting about a dear friend, very sad yet very inspiring, and see if you might be able to help too.
You've heard of the Million Dollar Pillowcase challenge by now right? Well, if you haven't, I will tell you a little bit about the program. American Patchwork & Quilting came up with the idea to combine our love of sewing with the gift of giving. Individuals and quilt shops around the globe are participating. I see my local quilt shop Sisto's is contributing. It's easy. Here's the website: http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/index.html for more details. Here you can find free downloadable patterns. Once you have your pillowcase complete, you can donate it to a local charity or find out if your local quilt shop is collecting for the cause. Dont forget to update the pillow case counter!

To watch a really awesome pillow tutorial, check out Fabrics N Things blog: http://fabricsnquilts.blogspot.com/2011/04/mondays-pillowcase-challenge-giveaway.html The video shows you how to make a sausage pillowcase - that's one that is rolled up in such away that you end up with no raw edges! I wish I would have seen this tutorial last August when making other pillowcases. This was the coolest way to make a pillowcase!
